Ludwick HR, Carpenter lift Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (AP)—Ryan Ludwick(notes) homered to snap an eighth-inning tie and reward aresourceful performance by Chris Carpenter(notes) in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 3-2victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.

Felipe Lopez(notes) added a two-run homer in his second game back from an elbowinjury. The Cardinals have won two straight since moving Albert Pujols(notes) to thecleanup spot, although they managed only six hits off three Washington pitchers.

Ludwick hit his sixth homer on a 1-1 delivery from Tyler Clippard(notes) (7-3), onepitch after the reliever picked off pinch-runner Brendan Ryan(notes) at first. Ludwickis batting .386 at home with three homers and eight RBIs.
