M’s Hernandez throws 5 scoreless innings

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP)—Felix Hernandez(notes) tossed five scoreless innings, FranklinGuiterrez and Ryan Langerhans(notes) each hit their first home runs of the spring andthe Seattle Mariners snapped a seven-game winless streak with a 4-0 win over theArizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Corey Patterson(notes) added his second homer of the spring for Seattle, which hadonly six home runs in the first 16 games before hitting three on Saturday.
A day after losing starter Cliff Lee(notes) (abdominal strain) for at least a weekand Doug Fister(notes) (bruised right forearm) for a few days, Hernandez was dominant,allowing singles to Tony Abreu(notes) in the second and Stephen Drew(notes) to start thethird.
Arizona’s Dan Haren(notes) struck out seven over five innings and allowed just fourhits, but the home runs cost him.
