Nationals’ Dunn hits 300th home run

WASHINGTON (AP)—Nationals slugger Adam Dunn(notes) hit his 300th career home runSaturday, ending Braves rookie Tommy Hanson’s(notes) consecutive scoreless inningsstreak at 26 with the milestone blast.

Dunn hit a 2-2 fastball two-thirds of the way up the second deck in rightfield leading off the seventh inning, cutting Atlanta’s lead to 3-1.

Dunn is the fifth major league player this season to reach the 300-homerplateau, joining Houston’s Lance Berkman(notes) and Ivan Rodriguez(notes), and Jermaine Dye(notes)and Paul Konerko(notes) of the Chicago White Sox.

The 29-year-old is the fifth player major league history to reach that totalin less than 4,200 at-bats, succeeding in his 4,145th at-bat. The others areBabe Ruth (3,830), Mark McGwire (3,837), Ralph Kiner (3,883) and HarmonKillebrew (3,928).
