Phillies LHP Bastardo to miss next start

TORONTO (AP)—Philadelphia left-hander Antonio Bastardo(notes) will miss his nextstart because of a strained shoulder, the team said Sunday.

Bastardo left injured in the fourth inning of his last start and returned toPhiladelphia this weekend, where he is scheduled to see a doctor on Monday.

Pitching against Tampa Bay last Thursday, the rookie gave up six runs in thefirst two innings to waste a 4-0 lead. He was replaced by Chad Durbin(notes) after aone out walk in the fourth.

Bastardo is 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA in five starts and has lost his past threeoutings.

The Phillies are off Monday and begin a three-game series in Atlanta onTuesday. Right-hander Joe Blanton(notes) will start the opener, with left-hander ColeHamels(notes) pitching on regular rest in Bastardo’s spot Wednesday. No starter hasbeen announced for Thursday’s finale.
