Dampier to rejoin Mavs after illness

MILWAUKEE (AP)—Mavericks center Erick Dampier(notes) is flying to Milwaukee to rejointhe team, a night after being hospitalized for an unspecified illness beforeDallas’ game against Detroit.
Dampier was taken to a Detroit-area hospital after warmups ahead of Sundaynight’s 95-90 victory over the Pistons.
The Mavericks did not release any information Monday about why Dampierneeded to be taken to the hospital. Once in Milwaukee, the 13-year veteran wasexpected to stay at the airport and wait for the team charter instead of headingto the arena.
Coach Rick Carlisle was terse when pressed on the situation, saying, “I’vegiven you all the details I’m going to give you. Symptom free.”
Carlisle later called it “a very unusual situation, but he’s doing wellnow.”
