Timberwolves’ Jefferson arrested for DWI

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Minnesota Timberwolves center Al Jefferson(notes) faces an April 23court appearance after his arrest on suspicion of DWI near downtown Minneapolis.

Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske (RAW’-skee) says a trooperstopped the 25-year-old Jefferson on Interstate 394 early Sunday for speedingand changing lanes without signaling.

Roeske says after taking a field sobriety test, Jefferson was taken to ahospital for a blood test, then to Hennepin County Jail on suspicion offourth-degree driving while impaired. Jefferson was released after an hour injail.

Jefferson led the Timberwolves with 19 points in Saturday night’s 110-91loss to Portland.

The 6-foot-10 Jefferson missed the last 2 1/2 months of last season afterinjuring his right knee and undergoing surgery. Telephone calls to his agent’soffice were not immediately returned Sunday.
