Spurs sign 1st-round pick Anderson

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—The San Antonio Spurs have signed first-round draft pickJames Anderson(notes).

Terms of the deal announced Friday weren’t released.

The 6-foot-6 guard out of Oklahoma State bypassed his senior year and wasthe 20th pick in the June NBA draft after finishing sixth in the nation inscoring at 22.3 points per game last season.

Anderson, the Big 12 player of the year, also averaged 5.8 rebounds and 2.4assists for the Cowboys. He is Oklahoma State’s No. 2 career scorer with a17.9-point average in 101 games, including 99 starts.

Kings ink swingman Wright, G Jeter

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—The Sacramento Kings have signed free agent swingmanAntoine Wright(notes) and guard Pooh Jeter to contracts.

The team did not reveal terms of the deals Friday.

Wright is entering his sixth NBA season. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.3rebounds in 290 career games with New Jersey, Dallas and Toronto. He averaged6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds last season with the Raptors.

Jeter had spent the past four seasons playing overseas in the Ukraine, Spainand Israel. He averaged 14.8 points per game for Cleveland in this month’ssummer league in Las Vegas.

Kings’ Evans pleads no contest to charge

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—Prosecutors say Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans(notes)has pleaded no contest to reckless driving.

Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully says Evans had his drivinglicense suspended for 30 days and was ordered to serve three years of informalprobation after entering his no contest plea Friday.

Evans was also ordered to serve 80 hours of alternative sentencing andparticipate in two highway patrol driving programs.

The California Highway Patrol pulled over the NBA’s Rookie of the Year onMay 31 after an air patrol said he was driving his Mercedes at more than 100 mphon Interstate 80 in Sacramento County.

After the arrest, a CHP spokeswoman said Evans was cooperative and wasn’tunder the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Bryant ready for camp after knee surgery

LOS ANGELES (AP)—The Los Angeles Lakers say Kobe Bryant(notes) recently underwentarthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Bryant will be fully recovered well before training camp opens Sept. 25, theLakers said in a brief statement Friday. The two-time NBA finals MVP underwentsurgery last week.

His knee was drained of fluid early in the playoffs, and he played throughseveral additional injuries while leading the Lakers to their second straighttitle.

The Lakers said last month that Bryant likely would have surgery this summerto clean up his knee. It wasn’t considered urgent, and he made a trip to SouthAfrica for the World Cup before getting it done.

The team hasn’t announced whether Bryant will have surgery on his injuredindex finger.

Wolves prez fined for Beasley pot remark

NEW YORK (AP)—The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves president David Kahn$50,000 for his comments about forward Michael Beasley’s(notes) marijuana use.

The league also fined the Timberwolves organization $50,000 Friday for whatit called inappropriate comments.

In an interview with a local ESPN Radio affiliate, Kahn called the recentlyacquired Beasley “a very young and immature kid who smoked too much marijuana”while he was playing in Miami.

Cavaliers sign 2009 draft pick Eyenga

CLEVELAND (AP)—The Cleveland Cavaliers have added their first player sinceLeBron James(notes) left as a free agent, signing swingman Christian Eyenga(notes).

Terms of the deal were not immediately known.

The Cavs selected Eyenga in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2009draft, but the 21-year-old played in Spain last season to develop his skills. Heaveraged 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 29 games for DKV Joventut Badalona.

The 6-foot-5 Eyenga played on the Cavs’ Summer League team earlier thismonth in Las Vegas and averaged 11.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in five games.

James’ departure for Miami left the Cavs with few options in free agency.The team signed Houston guard Kyle Lowry(notes) to an offer sheet that was matched bythe Rockets. Cleveland also offered a contract to free agent forward MattBarnes(notes), but he turned it down and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Armed men rob home of Bobcats’ Jackson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Police are investigating a home invasion and armedrobbery at the home of Charlotte Bobcats player Stephen Jackson(notes).

Multiple media organizations reported Friday that three masked gunmenentered Jackson’s home in a gated community of million-dollar homes earlyWednesday.

Police say the thieves took a 9mm pistol, a ruby-encrusted wristwatch, aLouis Vuitton wallet and other items.

Jackson was in Texas for a basketball camp. His wife was home and was forcedinto a bathroom, where police found her. She wasn’t hurt.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry at the 6,000-square-foothome. No arrests have been made.

Jackson could not be reached for comment and the Bobcats declined comment.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal has not beenfinalized. Several outlets reported late Thursday that Thomas was headed toChicago.

The 37-year-old Thomas gives the Bulls a strong defender and rebounder inthe frontcourt to go with Joakim Noah(notes) and Carlos Boozer(notes).

Thomas has averaged 8.8 points and 7.0 rebounds for seven teams in his15-year career, including a seven-season run with the New York Knicks.

He averaged only 3.0 points and 4.2 rebounds with Milwaukee last season, butwas effective in the playoffs, contributing 7.9 rebounds as the Bucks pushedAtlanta to seven games.

Pacers sign 2nd-round pick Stephenson

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—The Indiana Pacers have signed second-round draft pick LanceStephenson(notes) to a multiyear contract.

The Pacers made the announcement Thursday, but did not disclose the terms ofthe deal.

Stephenson was the 2010 Big East Rookie of the Year at Cincinnati this pastseason. The 6-foot-5 guard was the Pacers’ second-leading scorer in the Orlandosummer league at nearly 15 points per game, and led the league in field goalpercentage at 73 percent.

The Pacers have said Stephenson could play both guard spots. Team presidentLarry Bird said he was surprised the talented guard was available at the 40thpick.

The Pacers already had signed first-round pick Paul George(notes).
