SEATTLE (AP)—The city of Seattle has been working behind the scenes thepast eight months with a hedge-fund manager to bring an NBA team back to town—possibly as early as next fall if the Sacramento Kings fail to get asatisfactory deal for a new arena, newly released documents show.

The city turned over the documents to The Seattle Times on Friday under apublic records request (http://is.gd/PyQ06N ). The documents included the agendafor a meeting between the parties on Dec. 13, with topics including “Review ofBasic Deal Structure,” “City Debt Capacity” and “Financing Issues.”

A Seattle native who now lives in San Francisco, 44-year-old hedge-fundmanager Christopher Hansen, approached the city about his desire to buy an NBAteam and build an arena south of Safeco Field, the documents show. Hansen toldcity officials an arena could be built with minimal impact on taxpayers.

“I really appreciate it and look forward to making this happen in Seattle.I genuinely mean that and am confident that with a little effort and creativitywe can find a solution that meets our needs and the City’s/State’s desire to geta team back to Seattle without a large public outlay,” Hansen wrote in a June16 email to Julie McCoy, chief of staff to Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and EthanRaup, the mayor’s director of policy and operations.

Seattle hasn’t had an NBA team since 2008, when owner Clay Bennett moved theSonics to Oklahoma City and renamed them the Thunder.

Hansen, who heads Valiant Capital Management LLC, offered to provideinformation on recent arena deals that have been put together.

The Dec. 13 meeting was attended by McCoy and Raup and set up by Carl Hirsh,a New Jersey arena consultant hired by the city in July. The agenda alsoincluded discussion of KeyArena, where the Sonics played, and which could beused as a temporary home for a new team with the permission of the NBA. Theleague considered it an unsuitable even before the Sonics departed.

The documents don’t mention how Seattle would obtain a team, but the Timesreported that they show the city has been following developments in Sacramento, which is under a March 1 deadline to come up with a proposal to build an arenafor the Kings.

In addition, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has expressed interest in placinga team in Seattle, leading to speculation the financially struggling PhoenixCoyotes could move to the city and possibly share an arena with a basketballteam.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said Saturday he is taking the proposal seriously, but doesn’t want the city left “holding the bag.”

“It’s a pretty substantial commitment that would have to be made by theinvestors,” McGinn said, emphasizing that the city budget can’t be tapped tofund an arena.

He added that any offer also must honor the will of Seattle voters, who in2006 overwhelmingly approved an initiative that says the city must make a profiton any investment it makes in a sports arena.

Fantasy Basketball 11 registration is open. Sign up today! And follow Yahoo! Sports NBA coverage on Twitter.

MIAMI (AP)&#8212LeBron James took a difficult foul and clearly was not content. So thenext time he saw the ball, he created confident no Toronto player could reach him.

James&#8217 steal and dunk with just additional than two minutes left gave Miami somebreathing area, and the Heat held on to defeat the Toronto Raptors 95-89 onSunday. James completed with 30 points and Dwyane Wade added 25 for the Heat(18-6), who won for the 10th time in its last 12 games and moved inside one gameof Chicago (20-6) for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

&#8220We stuck with our principles,&#8221 James mentioned. &#8220And that&#8217s to defend.&#8221

Toronto Raptors head coach Dwa&hellip AP – Feb five, four:16 pm EST Miami Heat head coach Erik Spo&hellip AP – Feb five, four:02 pm EST Toronto Raptors &#039 DeMar De&hellip AP – Feb 5, 2:44 pm EST 1 of 3 Tor-Mia Gallery

Chris Bosh scored 12 points against his former team, which saw a 15-pointedge trimmed to three in the final minutes but in no way surrendered the lead. MarioChalmers added 11 for Miami.

DeMar DeRozan scored 25 for the Raptors, who got 17 apiece from JerrydBayless and Linas Kleiza.

&#8220I liked our disposition,&#8221 Raptors coach Dwane Casey stated. &#8220I liked theway we approached it. I liked the way we competed.&#8221

Kleiza&#8217s three-pointer with just under five minutes left got Toronto withineight, and a different three from Bayless as the shot clock expired on the next Raptors&#8217possession cut the Miami lead to 85-80&#8212the closest the game had been sinceearly in the third quarter.

Bayless scored once again to get the Raptors within three and cap a 12- Torontorun. And following Bosh missed a fadeaway from the correct baseline, Bayless attempted a3-pointer to tie. It bounced off, and with the game in the balance, James wentto operate.

He was fouled by James Johnson and produced two no cost throws with two:20 left, notbefore letting anyone around him know he wasn&#8217t pleased with the physicality ofthe play. The subsequent time James touched the ball, he didn&#8217t give the Raptors achance to foul him&#8212his steal and two-handed slam with 2:07 left gave Miami an89-82 edge and all but ensured the win.

&#8220Good back-to-back plays for our team and I was content I was able to makethem,&#8221 James mentioned.

James&#8212who leads the NBA in 1st-quarter scoring this season (9.1 points agame)&#8212got off to an additional major commence, producing his initially five shots and scoring 12points in the opening quarter. He&#8217s now shooting just below 60 percent in firstquarters this season.

Whilst scoring wasn&#8217t an concern, the Heat had been far from in the clear.

Casey told the Raptors that establishing pace and limiting turnovers&#8212especially early&#8212would be massive keys. Seemed like his team got the message: TheRaptors matched a season-high with 27 points in the initial quarter, and turnedthe ball over only 5 occasions in the 1st half. That, combined with DeRozantying his season best with 16 points in the opening two quarters, kept theRaptors close.

&#8220It just shows that we can compete with anybody,&#8221 DeRozan mentioned.

Miami&#8217s lead was only 53-48 at the break, and that was even soon after James andWade combined to score 22 points in the opening quarter on 8 for 9 shooting.

&#8220We knew it was going to be one particular of those grind-out kind of games,&#8221 Wadesaid. &#8220We fully grasp that a lot of teams do that when they play the Heat&#8212comeout on fire.&#8221

In the third quarter, the Heat lastly took manage&#8212not surprisingly, whenthe defense picked up a notch.

Toronto missed all but one of its shots more than a seven-minute stretch of thethird, a span exactly where Miami began with a 55-54 lead and improved it 73-57.Chalmers hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the 18-three run, James produced a fadeawaywith three:27 to play in the period to close the flurry.

&#8220Our energy was good,&#8221 Heat coach Erik Spoelstra stated. &#8220Even throughoutthe game, I didn&#8217t have a issue with the energy. &#8230 It was much more of a realconcentration and a discipline toward the end of the (shot) clock. And that&#8217ssomething we&#8217ll have to continue to get far better at.&#8221

And, just as Casey feared, turnovers proved decisive. Toronto committedeight in the third, which Miami turned into nine points. Miami gave the ballaway only twice in the third, and the Raptors didn&#8217t score on either.

&#8220Next time we&#8217ve got to come out and make the plays and close,&#8221 Baylesssaid.

Notes: It was the second straight year Miami played at property on Super BowlSunday. The Heat beat the Clippers last year in a game that began at noon andwith James half-seriously asking officials to speed issues along. &#8230 Miami hasbeaten the Raptors six straight occasions. &#8230 It was Raptors C Jamaal Magloire&#8217sfirst time visiting Miami as an opponent since March 2008. The Toronto nativehad spent the past three seasons with the Heat and remains close to severalformer teammates. &#8220He was about as pure as anybody we have ever had as a roleplayer,&#8221 Spoelstra said.

Garnett was 9 of 12 from the field, like his third three-pointer of theseason on three tries. He hit 1 in Friday&#8217s win more than New York.

&#8220He&#8217s shooting it properly,&#8221 Rivers mentioned, just before joking about Garnett&#8217s recent3-point good results. &#8220Gives us an additional solution at the finish of the game&#8212don&#8217t tellhim that.&#8221

Paul Pierce scored 21 points, moving nine behind Hall of Famer Larry Birdfor second location on the club&#8217s all-time list, and Ray Allen added 12. RajonRondo had 14 assists and reserve Chris Wilcox chipped in with 12 points.

Boston took charge with a 21-7 run early in the fourth quarter that turned asix-point lead to 90-70 on Garnett&#8217s jumper.

Relying on a mixture of reserves and two of their usual stars&#8212Garnettand Pierce&#8212the Celtics controlled the glass and outran the Grizzlies fortransition baskets.

&#8220I believed we put together some genuinely great runs and got the ball moving,&#8221Pierce stated.

Rudy Gay paced the Grizzlies with 21 points and seven rebounds, and O.J.Mayo scored 15 points for Memphis, which has lost six of eight.

The Celtics led by six points at halftime and pushed it to double digits(53-43) on Pierce&#8217s two free throws midway into the third. Boston relied on somehot long-range shooting in the third quarter, hitting five of its very first 6 frombehind the three-point line to maintain Memphis from coming back until Gay scored threeconsecutive baskets late in the period.

&#8220The essential to the game was that we didn&#8217t get back on defense. They had 26fast break points on us and that was big, and they controlled the glass,&#8221Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. &#8220We turned them over but we couldn&#8217t getthe effortless transition buckets. They got back on defense and forced us to play halfcourt, and they did a very good job defensively.&#8221

Allen hit three shots from beyond the arc and was fouled on one, hitting thefree throw that produced it 62-51. Pierce and Garnett also hit 3s, with Garnett&#8217sbringing a loud ovation from the crowd.

&#8220I can shoot 3s,&#8221 Garnett mentioned. &#8220Everyone&#8217s acting like I&#8217m 50 and outhere on a single leg. I don&#8217t shoot 3s since we have one particular of the all-time greatest3-point shooters in the background of the league (Allen), we have Paul Pierce whohas won 3-point contests, we have other guys who can shoot 3.
The Bucks trailed by 24 at halftime and in no way threatened in the second half, resting all 5 starters in the fourth quarter.

Deng was averaging 15.9 points and 7.five rebounds prior to tearing a ligament inhis left wrist Jan. 21 against Charlotte. He consulted with physicians beforedeciding against surgery, and his initial return against the Bucks appearedpromising.

&#8220He got out there and did every little thing,&#8221 Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau stated.

The veteran forward produced 9 of 19 shots and had nine rebounds in 41 minutes.

&#8220I felt it, (and) I&#8217m going to feel it,&#8221 he mentioned of the wrist injury. &#8220Asthe game goes on, I forgot about it. I really was cautious at the begin of thegame. As the game went on, just playing basketball, I didn&#8217t seriously believe aboutit until I fell (in the fourth quarter).&#8221

The Bucks had been coming off an 88-80 loss to hapless Detroit on Friday night.Coach Scott Skiles mentioned prior to the game Saturday his team would get blown out inthe very first half against Chicago if it played just as poorly.

He was prophetic. The Bucks trailed 67-43 at halftime, permitting the Bulls toshoot 62 percent to the Bucks 36 percent in the very first half. Chicago also held a28-13 rebounding advantage in the initially half.

&#8220We&#8217ve got eight straight quarters of fairly poor defense,&#8221 Skiles mentioned.&#8220To me, the largest stat on the sheet is we have eight fouls in a game whereDerrick Rose is penetrating and penetrating and penetrating.&#8221

The Bulls scored 113 points in spite of only going three of four from the totally free throwline.

&#8220If you had told me before the game they were only going to shoot 4 freethrows, I would have believed it would be in our favor,&#8221 Skiles stated. &#8220But itwas a layup drill for them for a very good portion of the game.&#8221

Leading scorer Brandon Jennings was in foul difficulty for much of the game, and played ten minutes in the very first half and 22 overall. He didn&#8217t score untilhitting a baseline jumper midway through the third quarter and was held to eightpoints.

&#8220It just seemed like we couldn&#8217t quit them at all,&#8221 Jennings stated.

Drew Gooden scored a season-high 24 points. Rookie Tobias Harris was theonly other Bucks player in double figures with 19 points.

With Jennings on the bench for substantially of the 1st half, the Bucks turned toGooden. He scored 18 points, making all 10 of his cost-free throws, to lead theBucks, in the initially half.

NOTES: Rose stated his back tightened in the second quarter, but he didn&#8217tthink it would be anything critical. . The Bulls received a a lot louder responsefrom the crowd than the Bucks, with their fans breaking into a lot of chantsthroughout the game. . The 67 very first-half points tied the most points scored bythe Bulls in the initially half this season. .
Bryant, Howard and James had been selected All-Star starters this week. Reservesare announced Thursday.

If Parker&#8217s name wasn&#8217t in the mix prior to, it almost certainly is now.

&#8220I would like to go once more eventually,&#8221 stated Parker, a 3-time All-Starwho hasn&#8217t been due to the fact 2009. &#8220We&#8217ll see what takes place.&#8221

All-Star Kevin Durant had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Oklahoma City(18-5), which was headed for its first blowout loss of the season ahead of closinga 24-point deficit in the fourth. The convincing win more than the NBA&#8217s winningestteam was just the springboard San Antonio needed before spending subsequent threeweeks on the road&#8212where the Spurs have hardly been as dominant.

The Thunder has jumped ahead of the rest of the NBA, in portion, by becoming thebest road team. But this time they ran straight into the NBA&#8217s finest property team, which was by no means clearer than in the third quarter when the Spurs tripled an8-point lead in a span of 8 1/two minutes.

Parker&#8217s most electrifying game since scoring 43 in a playoff win overDallas in 2009 saw to that.

&#8220Coming off pick and rolls, (Parker) was obtaining to the rim,&#8221 Durant said.&#8220He is so fast and he was beating our bigs to the lane often. It&#8217s toughfor our bigs to guard an individual as quick as Tony.&#8221

Parker, who&#8217s spent all his 11 years in the NBA in San Antonio, now has4,477 career assists. He scored 16 points in the third, going 6 for 9 from thefloor and sinking all 4 of his foul shots. In a game worthy of a standingovation, his came before it was even more than&#8212with two:28 left in the third, when hesurpassed the franchise assists record that Johnson had held because 2001.

The record dish fittingly came on a pick-and-roll with Tim Duncan, hislongtime co-pilot in San Antonio&#8217s last 3 championships. And up against theNBA&#8217s best team, the duo looked as even though they didn&#8217t even miss Manu Ginobili,who&#8217s missed the final month with a broken hand.

Parker was 16 of 29 from the floor, made ten of 12 free throws and upped hisscoring typical to 18 points.

&#8220(Parker) knew he had to have a large game tonight, and we knew we had toscore points against these guys,&#8221 Spurs coach Gregg Popovich mentioned.

Duncan had 13 points and 15 rebounds. Rookie Kawhi Leonard, obtaining hisstarting job back so he could guard Durant, added 15 points and hit all three ofhis 3-pointers. San Antonio&#8217s 4-game winning streak is its longest allseason.

James Harden had 19 points off the bench for the Thunder. Russell Westbrookhad 18 points and six assists.

&#8220Tony Parker had his way with us,&#8221 Thunder coach Scott Brooks stated.&#8220That&#8217s as aggressive as I&#8217ve seen him in a long time.&#8221

At instances, it was an intense commence to the Thunder&#8217s five-game road trip. Ascramble for a loose ball between Parker and Westbrook in the second quarterescalated into a rapid scrape of swats and kicks, with Parker acquiring whistledfor a private foul and Westbrook shoving aside the Frenchman&#8217s leg so he couldget up.

Parker, visibly annoyed, was pulled off the pile by Blair, and the playerson the Thunder&#8217s bench sprung to their feet. Parker responded by darting fullsteam on a quickly break and drawing a foul at the rim. One particular possession later,Parker hit a difficult 17-footer falling away, adding to an complete game&#8217s worth ofhighlights.

The Spurs enhanced to 13-1 at household, ideal in the NBA. But they&#8217ll now playtheir next nine away from the AT&ampT Center as component of their annual Rodeo RoadTrip. San Antonio is three-8 on the road.

NOTES: Thunder G Thebo Sefolosha missed his fourth consecutive game with asore proper foot. &#8230 Following Thursday&#8217s win over New Orleans, Popovichridiculed a reporter who recommended that 7-footer Tiago Splitter attemptedanything but layups, saying his final jumper was probably in Spain in 2003. Twonights later? Splitter badly missed a 13-foot fadeaway with the shot clockrunning down.

Irving, who has shown a knack for final-second drama in his very first season, finished with 20 points, 7 assists and just one particular turnover in 36 minutes. AndersonVarejao added 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Cavs, who outscored theMavericks 10-three more than the final 4:13.

Following thrilling a crowd of 17,443 and helping the Cavs get their initial winover a team with an above .500 record this season, Irving was brought back onthe floor to be interviewed over the loudspeakers in Quicken Loans Arena.

&#8220I have 1 thing to say, Kyrie,&#8221 the arena&#8217s in-game host said. &#8220Welcometo Cleveland.&#8221

Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points for Dallas and passed Elgin Baylor for 22ndplace on the NBA&#8217s scoring list. But the Mavericks didn&#8217t score a field aim inthe final four:13, missing 5 shots and creating one turnover. They won&#8217t get achance to redeem themselves until Wednesday at Denver.

&#8220It&#8217s ugly, specifically given that we have to sit on this a single for a couple ofdays,&#8221 Nowitzki mentioned. &#8220We&#8217ll appreciate our day off, the very best we can, and come backto work.&#8221

Irving, who is averaging 22.8 points in his final 4 games, took over inthe final minutes. There was no hesitation in any move. Irving knew what hewanted to do, and he did it.

&#8220I just really feel my teammates&#8217 self-confidence going down the stretch,&#8221 heexplained. &#8220They continue to give me the ball and they have the confidence inme to make the right play for myself and for them. When you have thatconfidence, it&#8217s uncomplicated going into the fourth quarter.

&#8220Being a rookie and getting the ball in your hands, most folks would benervous, but I&#8217m actually not. I feed off my teammates&#8217 confidence, it feelsgood.&#8221

So, when does he get nervous?

&#8220I get nervous before virtually every game,&#8221 he stated, chuckling. &#8220Once I getin the game, nerves go out the window. If you play nervous you&#8217re most likelyunprepared.&#8221

Following Irving&#8217s twisting layup, Jason Terry missed an off-balance 3-pointerwith two.two seconds left for Dallas. After a replay critique gave the Mavericks afinal opportunity, Brandan Wright missed a desperation shot at the horn.

Prior to hitting his late layup, Irving produced a related 1&#8212after Varejao&#8217sseventh offensive rebound&#8212with two:36 left to give the Cavs an 87-86 lead.

The Mavericks, who were so efficient on the way to their title last season, seemed lost on offense in the closing minutes. Terry missed with two:14 to go andhe produced a negative pass in the lane to a cutting Nowitzki, who then had his own misswith one minute left.

Varejao dropped a runner in the lane to put the Cavaliers ahead 89-86 with41.4 seconds left. Terry&#8217s two free of charge throws got the Mavericks inside 1, andthat&#8217s when Irving, Cleveland&#8217s young star, put the game in his hands.

He drove the left side, made some space close to the basket and flipped inhis shot appropriate-handed off the glass.

&#8220He&#8217s a very very good young player, but we didn&#8217t guard him really properly,&#8221Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle stated. &#8220He&#8217ll be a foundation piece for a lot more thana decade for confident.&#8221

Cavs coach Byron Scott was far more than prepared to let Irving take manage.

&#8220&#8221We put the ball in his hands and let him make choices,&#8221 Scott mentioned.&#8220He has a one of a kind potential to get to the basket. When he gets there, he has a wayof finishing. When he gets around guys, he is just a wonderful finisher and he canfinish with either hand.&#8221

Down by eight at halftime and playing ragged offensive, the Cavaliers reeledoff 13 straight points in the third quarter, in which they outscored theMavericks 27-13 and somehow took a 70-64 lead into the fourth.

Last spring, the Mavericks were adopted by Cleveland as the city rooted hardfor them in the NBA finals when they denied LeBron James and the Miami Heat achampionship.

&#8220I heard some factors about it,&#8221 Carlisle mentioned. &#8220Last year was excellent forus. We know folks had been pulling for us and that was a single of the special thingsabout it.&#8221

The Mavericks, who played their fifth game with no point guard Jason Kidd(calf) were cheered through pregame introductions by Cavaliers fans, who wereespecially noisy for Nowitzki, the finals MVP last season.

But the loudest ovations came later for Irving. He&#8217s not only proving to beworthy of the No. 1 overall pick but showing superstar qualities.

And he&#8217s only receiving began.

NOTES: Nowitzki wants 23 points to tie Adrian Dantley (23,177) for 21stplace. &#8230 Varejao has 51 rebounds in his final four games. He is the initially Cavsplayer to get 15 in 3 straight due to the fact Brad Daugherty in 1994. &#8230 Mavericksowner Mark Cuban, fined $75,000 &ampearlier this week for criticizing officials, was not with the team and spending far more funds. He was in Indianapolis hosting aSuper Bowl party. &#8230 Scott didn&#8217t hesitate when asked to predict the SuperBowl. &#8220Giants 27 to 21,&#8221 said the former Lakers guard. &#8220You guys should knowthat I don&#8217t like something from Boston&#8212Celtics, Red Sox or Patriots.&#8221 &#8230 TheCavs had been nevertheless with no G Daniel Gibson (neck), G Anthony Parker (back) androokie F Tristan Thompson (ankle). Gibson was hospitalized earlier this week inBoston and Scott said the team&#8217s physicians want to re-evaluate him prior to decidingwhen he can return.
