Connected Coverage Weekly watch: Very best week of the season upcoming Reggie Johnson scored a profession-high 27 points as Miami shocked No. 7 Duke.(US Presswire)

&#8220I really feel I had the hot hand the entire game,&#8221 Johnson said, adding thatfirst-year coach Jim Larranaga &#8220was trying to ride me a whole lot. My teammatesfound me in great positions&#8212catch and score.&#8221

Kenny Kadji added 15 points for the Hurricanes (14-7, 5-three Atlantic CoastConference), who blew a 16-point lead in the second half, then regrouped toclaim their initial huge victory for their new coach.

&#8220To come in here and play with the kind of poise we did, play the kind ofdefense we did&#8212especially in the very first half and in the overtime&#8212wassomething that we can be really, quite proud of,&#8221 Larranaga said.

That poise gave Miami its initial victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium and justits second win more than Duke given that joining the ACC. The Hurricanes are on theirfirst 4-game winning streak given that 2008 and have won three consecutive ACCroad games for the 1st time.

Seth Curry scored 22 points and freshman Austin Rivers added 20 for the BlueDevils (19-4, 6-2), who appeared listless though falling into that deep deficitbefore waking up with about 16 minutes left.

Then, they missed all six of their free throws in overtime and wound upbeing beaten at household by a Florida-based conference rival for the second timethis season.

&#8220A Duke team must play with power for 40 minutes, or 45,&#8221 coach MikeKrzyzewski stated. &#8220Go outside appropriate now and you appear at the banners&#8212there arequite a handful of of them up there. They had been not won with out energy, without hunger, with no complacency, with individuals seriously wanting it.

&#8220And we&#8217ve wanted it a lot, and we&#8217ve won a lot. We&#8217re supposed to playhard and with energy all the time. Those are givens. Those ought to be givens.&#8221

Mason Plumlee added 13 rebounds for Duke, which had its 45-game property winningstreak snapped two weeks ago by No. 21 Florida State. The Blue Devils have losttwo of 3 at Cameron and have dropped multiple property games for the initially timesince going 15-four there in 2006-07.

&#8220The biggest emphasis for us was to shield our residence court,&#8221 guard QuinnCook mentioned. &#8220We&#8217ve got to get much better.&#8221

Nonetheless, the Blue Devils had plenty of probabilities in the additional session. Theytrailed 75-74 with Cook on the line, but he missed two no cost throws with 27.2seconds left.

After Johnson missed two foul shots with 26.2 seconds left to give Dukeanother shot, Cook missed badly on a operating jumper with about 15 seconds left.DeQuan Jones extended Miami&#8217s lead to 77-74 with two foul shots with 12.9seconds left.

Freshman Austin Rivers and Duke rallied in the second half but lost in overtime.(US Presswire)

Rivers and Ryan Kelly missed 3s in the final seconds and Johnson added afree throw with one-tenth of a second remaining to silence the subdued arena.

Johnson, a native of Winston-Salem, surpassed the 25 points he scored lastseason against Wake Forest.

&#8220It&#8217s huge&#8212my buddies, my family had been here,&#8221 Johnson mentioned. &#8220Growing uphere, I know about Duke. I know about North Carolina. I know about N.C. State. So to come in here and get a win against Duke is true major-time.&#8221

He scored the Hurricanes&#8217 initially four points in overtime just before MalcolmGrant&#8217s open-court layup put Miami up 75-69 with 2:ten left.

Durand Scott added 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting for the Hurricanes, who hada chance to win it in regulation.

Rivers tied it at 69 with one particular of two free of charge throws with 21.5 seconds left.Miami had the ball final, but Johnson passed out of a double-team in the post toScott, who couldn&#8217t get a shot off just before the buzzer.

Miami forced 14 turnovers and was cruising just before going cold midway throughthe second half, managing only one field goal in the course of the crucial stretch thatcoincided with Duke&#8217s rally.

Miami went up by 16 points 3 instances, the last on Kadji&#8217s open three-pointerfrom the essential that made it 53-37 with 14 1/two minutes left. But a putback by Johnsonwas the Hurricanes&#8217 only field goal for rather over the subsequent 8 1/2 minutes.

Duke, which missed 15 of 18 shots through the stretch that put it in such ahuge hole, got equally hot for the duration of the 16-two run led by Curry that put the BlueDevils suitable back in it.

&#8220For 24 minutes, I just think we had been not extremely superior at all,&#8221 Krzyzewskisaid. &#8220We had no power and they did. &#8230 Then in the last 16 minutes ofregulation, I thought we played extremely nicely and gave ourselves an opportunityto win.&#8221

The Spartans (18-five, 7-3 Huge Ten) moved into sole possession of second placein the conference behind third-ranked Ohio State.

&#8220It was a lot more about the rivalry than it was the Large Ten,&#8221 Michigan Statecoach Tom Izzo stated.

For Green, it was actually personal.

He hadn&#8217t played specifically well in the past against the Wolverines andthis was the last scheduled shot for the Saginaw native to beat a team heacknowledges hating.

&#8220I don&#8217t care exactly where you&#8217re from, it never signifies as much as it does for theplayers in state and that&#8217s one of the factors I believe in recruiting in-stateguys,&#8221 Izzo stated. &#8220Draymond didn&#8217t want to go out losing four in a row.&#8221

Green was the center of attention before the game, promising to play afterspraining his left knee in a loss Tuesday night at Illinois and saying onlydeath could have kept him off the court.

&#8220It wasn&#8217t hurting,&#8221 he mentioned. &#8220I felt wonderful.&#8221

The do-it-all forward vowed Michigan State would win Sunday&#8217s game after hisfloating ten-footer and tip-in try in the final seconds of final month&#8217ssetback in Ann Arbor. Michigan had won 3 straight instances in the rivalry forthe first time because winning five in a row from 1996 to 1998.

&#8220The globe is back into location,&#8221 Green mentioned.

Green, whose previous high against Michigan was ten points, made a fadeawayjumper and left-handed layup to restore ten-point leads on ensuing possessionsafter the Wolverines cut their deficit to single digits midway by way of thesecond half.

He soared for a defensive rebound in the final minute for his 16th reboundand became just the fourth Major Ten player to at least equal his opponent&#8217s totalin a conference game due to the fact the 1996-97 season, according to STATS, LLC.

&#8220He&#8217s got a wonderful spirit and he had a great game,&#8221 Wolverines coach JohnBeilein mentioned. &#8220He&#8217s constantly been a difficult matchup for us, but he played his besttoday.&#8221

Michigan&#8217s ideal players, meanwhile, played poorly.

Tim Hardaway Jr. missed his initial six shots and had a season-low four pointson 1-for-10 shooting. Teammate Trey Burke had made only a single shot just before his3-pointer just ahead of halftime pulled the Wolverines inside eight points. Burkefinished four of 11 and scored 11 points.

&#8220What we did was shut down Burke&#8217s penetration and that&#8217s how Hardaway getshis shots,&#8221 Izzo stated.

The Spartans took control with a 17-7 run early in the very first half and pulledaway with eight straight points to take a 57-40 lead with just beneath 3 minutesleft soon after Brandon Wood tracked down an offensive rebound and created a 3-pointer.

Michigan State outrebounded the Wolverines 40-16, which includes acquiring ninemore on the offensive glass.

&#8220They only missed 22 shots and they ended up acquiring 12 of those back&#8212andthat&#8217s not great,&#8221 Beilein mentioned.

Keith Appling and Branden Dawson each scored 10 points and Wood added ninefor the Spartans, who made 52 percent of their shots and held the Wolverines tosub-40-percent shooting.

Michigan&#8217s Zach Novak scored 14 points and Jordan Morgan had 11.

The Spartans held Michigan scoreless for 5-plus minutes, but they were tiedat two right after generating only 1 shot and turning the ball over 4 instances.

Michigan State started clicking on offense while the Wolverines continued tostruggle, top 19-9 midway through the initial half.

The Spartans made 59 percent of their shots in the 1st half with eightplayers making a shot.

Michigan, meanwhile, had eight turnovers by halftime&#8212three fewer than itaverages in a game&#8212and shot 39 percent.

The Wolverines attempted to get Hardaway going early in the second half, but hemissed 4 shots in the opening minutes prior to lastly making a shot with 15:26left in the game.

&#8220We were trying to do every thing we can,&#8221 Beilein said.

Michigan State built a 16-point lead with just under 13 minutes left soonafter the generally composed Beilein was called for a technical foul for arguing acall. A couple of minutes later, the Spartans&#8217 bench was named for a technical and itwasn&#8217t clear if an assistant coach or the frequently fiery Izzo drew thewhistle.

Michigan State improved to 14- at the Breslin Center, which seemed louderthan it has been in years, and the Wolverines nonetheless have only one particular win on anopponent&#8217s residence court this season.

&#8220I thought the making had some power,&#8221 Izzo stated. &#8220I thought it wasoff the charts.&#8221

Denmon scored 29 points, two off his profession best, and ended a extended-rangeshooting slump with a profession-best six 3-pointers in nine attempts.

&#8220Marcus worked his tail off all week,&#8221 coach Frank Haith stated.

The go-ahead three-pointer came with 56 seconds to go for a 1-point lead.Michael Dixon added a pair of free throws with 9.8 seconds left immediately after anoffensive foul on Tyshawn Taylor and Kansas&#8217 Elijah Johnson missed badly on ashot to tie it at the buzzer.

&#8220The most significant factor I don’t forget hearing was Kimmie saying, `We&#8217regoing to win this game,&#8221&#8217 Denmon mentioned. &#8220I understood how substantially it meant to himto say that. We&#8217re the senior leaders and I felt we had to come out andexecute.&#8221

Missouri (21-two, 8-two Big 12) beat Kansas for only the second time in the last12 meetings, and the Tigers&#8217 impending departure for the SEC added spice to thefinal conference meeting in Columbia, Mo.

Thomas Robinson had 25 points and 13 rebounds for Kansas (18-five, 8-2), butthe closing minutes were anguish for coach Bill Self. The Jayhawks werescoreless the final three:20 following Taylor dunked for a 71-63 lead.

&#8220We let up on the gas and they hit shots. Large shots,&#8221 said Robinson, hisvoice choked with emotion. &#8220We blew that game. I nevertheless give them credit formaking shots.&#8221

Other miscues: Robinson was called for an offensive foul with 1:42 to go andwith Missouri up by one particular, Taylor missed two free of charge throws with 41 seconds to go.

&#8220We naturally created some actually negative plays late, really bad plays,&#8221 Selfsaid. &#8220They&#8217ve nevertheless got to make shots, but they had a guy that wasunbelievable.&#8221

Missouri is 13- at household, and this was the closest call by far for a teamthat has typically dominated. The prior smallest margin was 11 points overTexas last month.

Haith beat Kansas in his 1st attempt, although it was Missouri&#8217s first in theseries given that 2009 and only the second in the final 12 general. Self fell to 17-4against Missouri.

&#8220It was just a excellent atmosphere,&#8221 Haith mentioned. &#8220It was a memorable game. Aclassic.&#8221

The rematch is Feb. 25 in Lawrence, Kan. It also could also be the finalmeeting in between the schools for a even though with negative feelings from Missouri&#8217sdecision to leave for the SEC.

&#8220I will say this: So a lot has been made about the hatred and that stuff,&#8221Self stated. &#8220Hey, this is tough for me to say to Missouri folks, but I thoughttonight that was about as classy an atmosphere as there is. I hope it&#8217ll be thesame way when they come more than to our location. I&#8217m confident it will be.&#8221

Haith had the team stay at a hotel Saturday night, saying, &#8220I can imaginewhat Columbia is going to be like tonight.&#8221

Denmon had been just 5 for 31 from 3-point range the previous 5 games, and was held to six points on three for 12 overall shooting in a one particular-point victoryat Texas on Monday, and had been spending extra time in the fitness center operating on theshot. He hit all 3 three-point attempts in a 16-point first half, helpingMissouri take a 39-34 lead.

The border matchup prompted a lot of added adrenaline, some of it providedby a pumped-up sound method. Missouri mascot Truman the Tiger descended from theceiling through cable, a nod to the every single-night tradition at the old Hearnes Center, and prep-game festivities featured fireworks that left an acrid stench hoveringover the court a lot of the very first half.

Fans began camping out Wednesday night to get a spot for ESPN&#8217s GameDay, andat least 1,000 college students were poised to charge for favorable seating when thegates opened 1 1/two hours prior to tip-off. Fans on one half of the arena stayed ontheir feet all through the game, as opposed to taking their seat immediately after Missouri&#8217sfirst basket.

&#8220That was the loudest I&#8217d ever heard them,&#8221 English stated. &#8220I was just soproud and excited.&#8221

There was little out-of-line behavior, other than a fan heaving whatappeared to be a rolled-up T-shirt onto the court immediately after Ricardo Ratliffe waswhistled for his fourth foul with 6:22 to go.

Isaiah Canaan, Latreze Mushatt and Jewuan Long every scored 11 points and10th-ranked Murray State beat Tennessee-Martin 65-58 Saturday night.

The Racers (23-, 11- Ohio Valley Conference) brought plenty of fans tocheer the school&#8217s longest winning streak. Combined with a &#8220We Back Pat&#8221 nightdedicated to alum Pat Summitt helping raise income for Alzheimer&#8217s, a sold-outcrowd of four,700 packed the Elam Center with fans lining the upper walkway.

They didn&#8217t shoot close to as nicely as they normally do. And they couldn&#8217t closeout Tennessee-Martin.

They did win but again, and Murray State coach Steve Prohm was pleased withthat.

&#8220What these guys are receiving faced with each and every single night, and this iswhat people today require to realize,&#8221 Prohm said. &#8220They&#8217re playing in front ofsellout crowds every night on the road each time considering that Memphis. So you&#8217regetting just about every very best shot no matter whether you&#8217re at Tennessee-Martin or you&#8217re at AustinPeay or you&#8217re at SEMO or Memphis, whichever it may be. So quite proud of ourguys.&#8221

Tennessee Martin (three-22, -12) lost its 13th straight, and coach Jason Jamespraisd his Skyhawks for playing difficult throughout. They held Murray State to three of17 (17.6 percent) from three-point range, properly below its usual 41.9 percent. TheRacers also shot 42.4 percent from the floor when they common 47.7 percent.

&#8220We didn&#8217t let them blow us out,&#8221 James stated. &#8220We kept fighting. We keptcompeting.&#8221

Prohm mentioned it felt like a high school Friday night with all the fans packedinto the muggy fitness center. As the final seconds ticked off, those Racers fans chanted,&#8220Un-de-feat-ed.&#8221

James said they expected plenty of Racers fans with Murray State about anhour&#8217s drive away. They had an impact, too. With six seconds on the shot clock, the Racers fans chanted a quick count and got Tennessee-Martin&#8217s Omari Minor tohurry a three that hit nothing but air.

&#8220Our guys are impressionable. So impressionable when you say the clock&#8217srunning down, we&#8217re most likely going to shoot it. That&#8217s just how we are,&#8221 Jamessaid with a wry smile. &#8220We&#8217re all appropriate with that.&#8221

Murray State enhanced to 40-3 all-time against the Skyhawks and 18-3 inMartin.

Dane Smith led the Skyhawks with 24 points, and Myles Taylor added 14.

The Skyhawks outrebounded Murray State 47-39, but the Racers outscored themin the paint (38-30), off turnovers (11-3) and had a huge edge off the bench(24-8). Zay Jackson had a team-high nine points off the bench followed by IvanAska as the senior works his way back from a broken hand. Aska had eight points,3 rebounds and two blocks.

&#8220They had jumped on us early, but we kept our composure,&#8221 Aska stated. &#8220Wedid what we had to do and stuff like that. We didn&#8217t get rattled too much.

Prohm known as it a fantastic team win a game following Canaan scored 24 of 32 in thesecond half to rally the Racers from an 11-point deficit.

&#8220Today he went 4 for 12, wasn&#8217t able to make shots,&#8221 Prohm stated. &#8220He was0 for 4 currently from the three, but Zay made huge plays. Jewuan got the basket, madesome layups. &#8230 I&#8217m proud of our guys.&#8221

Tennessee-Martin kept it close in the initially half with 5 ties and fourlead adjustments right after Murray State looked prepared to blow the Skyhawks off the courtin the opening minutes by scoring the 1st seven points, the last on a layup byMushatt.

Mike Liabo answered lastly with a three-pointer for the Skyhawks, and thatstarted a 13-2 spurt keyed by six points from Taylor, and his jumper with 13:50left gave Tennessee-Martin a 13-9 lead that would be its most significant of the game.

Troy King hit a jumper that pulled the Skyhawks into their final tie at 19.Mushatt came back with a different layup with 7:23 left to put Murray State ahead tostay.

Neither team could hit from beyond the arc early, but the Skyhawks pulled upfar too often for 3-pointers that clanked off the rim in going 1 of 10 in thefirst half. Murray State wasn&#8217t substantially superior (2 of 12). The Racers did manage tohave a 13-6 edge in points on second odds.

1 of their very best came when Canaan stole the ball and attempted to finish off afast break with a layup only to miss. Poole got the rebound and put it back upfor a 30-21 lead with three:15 left in the very first in helping the Racers to a 37-28halftime lead.

Tennessee-Martin never got closer than five in the second half onconsecutive buckets by Taylor, then Smith that got the Skyhawks inside 41-36with 14:13 to go. Jackson hit a three, Aska scored, then Canaan finished off athree-point play for a 49-36 lead.

The Skyhawks pulled inside six twice late, the final on a bucket by CorderioMaclin with four:04 left to give the home fans hope of an upset. Donte Poole andAska each hit a pair of no cost throws to push the lead back out and finish off thewin.

Follow Yahoo! Sports college basketball coverage on Twitter.

&#8220It didn&#8217t matter who we played, somebody was losing by 30,&#8221 Caliparisaid.

Davis, the 6-foot-10 freshman, was a big purpose why. He finished severalalley-oops in the 1st half as Kentucky opened 52-25 lead and was there to swataway various shots by the Gamecocks, who created only nine field objectives in theopening period.

Davis mentioned the Wildcats got a rapid boost by Kentucky&#8217s fans, who created up atleast half the 16,527 who turned out at the Colonial Life Arena.

&#8220I&#8217m not employed to this,&#8221 Davis stated. &#8220I thought, `It feels like a homegame in right here.&#8221&#8217

If Kentucky keeps playing like this, expect the team&#8217s fans to turn out onthe road even additional than they already do.

Davis produced his initial nine shots, finishing 9 of ten, and added two steals.

Davis, who sat for lengthy stretches of the second half, got back in the gamewith about 6 minutes to go and looked as although he may have a opportunity at theprogram&#8217s second-ever triple double. But when he took a hard spill on acollision with Anthony Gill, Calipari took his prized freshman out for excellent tothe applause of several thousand Wildcats fans.

Calipari was talked into putting his star back in to attempt and match ChrisMills&#8217 feat&#8212he had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Austin Peayin 1988&#8212and did not hesitate yanking Davis when he crash landed.

&#8220Do you care about that?&#8221 Calipari asked Davis about a triple-double. Thefreshman shook his head no.

&#8220Yes he does,&#8221 Calipari cracked to the media.

It might be harder for Davis to get a single down the stretch, although. 5 ofKentucky&#8217s remaining seven league games are against Florida, Vanderbilt andMississippi State&#8212the SEC&#8217s other ranked teams.

Damien Leonard scored a career-high 19 points for South Carolina (9-13,1-7).

Davis and the 6-9 Jones did most of the damage as Kentucky got factors inhand early on. The two combined for eight dunks in the very first half, includingfour straight through a single stretch of the period as Kentucky moved in front 23-10with 13:12 remaining ahead of the break.

&#8220I just feel everybody began the game with a lot of energy,&#8221 Jones mentioned.

South Carolina produced one particular last drive to get back in it when Leonard hit a pairof 3s that cut the lead to 25-18.

The Wildcats then took off on a 17-two run the subsequent six minutes&#8212Jones scorednine of the points and Davis five&#8212to take manage.

Davis didn&#8217t cease with a big lead, either. He grabbed a rebound from about18 feet out as the shot-clock buzzer sounded and glided in for his fifth jam ofthe period to enhance Kentucky&#8217s margin to 52-25 at the break.

The Gamecocks, who have just one senior on the roster, appearedshell-shocked via most the period. The team&#8217s best inside presence in 6-9Damontre Harris played only seven minutes right after obtaining three fouls. Malik Cookeand Bruce Ellington, South Carolina&#8217s leading two scorers, were a combined 1 of 10from the floor for three points. They ended with eight points, 16 fewer than theircombined averages coming in.

Kentucky kept it going with an 11-4 run to open the second half andeventually grew the lead to 41 points as the huge Wildcat contingent of fansshouted, &#8220Go Major Blue!&#8221 in the final minutes.

The Wildcats have rolled because their only loss of the season, 73-72 atIndiana back on Dec. 10, with 14 straight wins. That&#8217s included a dominant firsthalf run by means of the SEC, winning seven of their nine league games by 13 pointsor more.

The Gamecocks who opened league play -four for the 1st time due to the fact 2007seemed to find some self-confidence in their play final week with their first leaguewin, 56-54 more than Alabama, and a last-second, 66-62, loss at Ole Miss. They put ona strong showing but fell once again two days ago at No. 12 Florida, 74-66.

Rather, it was the worst home loss of coach Darrin Horn&#8217s four seasons anda vast distinction from the last time No. 1 Kentucky showed up right here.

In 2010, Gamecocks point guard Devan Downey scored 30 points in a stunning,68-62 victory that swiftly ended the Wildcats very first time atop the rankings inseven seasons.

The basketball Gamecocks started a trend of toppling No. 1s that swept throughthe athletic department in 2010. The baseball team defeated No. 1 Arizona Stateon the way to a College World Series crown. And the football team beat No. 1Alabama that fall as it won the SEC Eastern Division.

None of that mattered to these Wildcats, who won their fifth in a row overSouth Carolina. Horn stated Kentucky had improved significantly over the past monthsince the Gamecocks 79-64 loss at Rupp when South Carolina outscored theWildcats in the second half.

&#8220They played outstanding,&#8221 Horn stated. &#8220They looked like the No. 1 team inthe nation.&#8221

Northern Iowa&#8217s Anthony James did Young a single superior, spectacular 13th-rankedCreighton with a three of his own at the buzzer.

James buried the thrilling game-winner as time expired and Northern Iowaupset the Bluejays 65-62 on Saturday to snap their 11-game winning streak.

James, who missed Tuesday&#8217s win more than Southern Illinois to rest his achingbody, scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and Seth Tuttle added 13points for the Panthers (16-9, 6-7 MVC), who handed visiting Creighton (21-3,11-2) its 1st loss because late December.

&#8220He tends to make them from a lot of places,&#8221 Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobsonsaid about James. &#8220He got himself to a spot exactly where he was closer to the basketand just felt far more comfortable. That was a huge play.&#8221

The very first big play of an unforgettable finale came from Young, who saw histeammates heavily guarded and pulled up from the leading of the important to tie it at62-all.

James dribbled the length of the court, stepped back from the wing and kepthis shooting hand in the air immediately after the winner, which sent Panthers fansstreaming onto their court.

&#8220Young made a wonderful shot to tie the ball game up, and I just took a quickglance at the clock and seen that we had time to dribble the ball up the courtand get a decent shot,&#8221 James stated. &#8220The shot went down.&#8221

Young scored 23 points and Doug McDermott, who initially committed toNorthern Iowa, had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Creighton.

&#8220We hit a large shot to give ourselves a likelihood. They hit a massive shot to winthe game,&#8221 Creighton coach Greg McDermott said.

The finish was a fitting caper to this back-and-forth contest between theseheated Valley rivals.

Northern Iowa opened up a 51-45 lead with five:21 left. The Panthers reeled offan 11-two run capped by a Deon Mitchell layup and a three from Chip Rank, andMcDermott picked up his fourth foul on a charge near the basket.

Young stopped the UNI surge with a 3-point play, pulling the Bluejayswithin a possession with 3:55 left, but Jake Koch&#8217s 3 with 1:11 left gave thePanthers a 58-54 lead.

James buried a huge three from the corner with 23 seconds left to put NorthernIowa ahead 61-56. Creighton&#8217s Jahenns Manigat produced it 61-59 on a 3 with 15seconds left.

James missed a free throw that allowed Young&#8217s 3 to tie it and shot just 6of 14 from the floor. But he hit the one that mattered at the finish.

&#8220I&#8217m nonetheless in awe of that game. It was so significantly fun to play,&#8221 Koch said.

Northern Iowa&#8217s Johnny Moran buried a three and Rank scooped by means of heavytraffic, placing the Panthers ahead 39-34 with 14:40 left. They could&#8217ve goneahead by seven, which would have been the largest lead but for either team, butYoung smartly stripped Matt Morrison at the rim.

Ethan Wragge&#8217s rushed 3 and bank shot at the end of two sloppy possessionsbrought Creighton back even at 40-all. McDermott then tipped a loose ball tohimself more than four Panthers in the paint, converting a 3-point play to givethe Bluejays a 43-40 lead with 11:02 left.

Creighton completed just five of 16 from three-point range, and nobody but Young andMcDermott scored far more than eight points.

&#8220We just necessary some offense from someplace else. Antoine and Doug weregood,&#8221 Greg McDermott said. &#8220It was just 1 of those nights. You play (24)games and they&#8217re not all going to be excellent.&#8221

Northern Iowa rolled into Valley play with a realistic shot at however anotherNCAA tournament berth immediately after wins over Old Dominion, Providence, Iowa and IowaState in nonconference play. But the Panthers have struggled in Valley play, uncharacteristically struggling to knock down shots.

That probably wouldn&#8217t have been an problem if McDermott had stuck about.

Jacobson graciously let McDermott leave when his father Greg left Iowa Statefor Creighton before Greg&#8217s freshman year.

No one particular could have imagined he would blossom into 1 of the nation&#8217s bestplayers&#8212and Northern Iowa&#8217s student section showed their bitterness by booingMcDermott when he touched the ball.

McDermott was as great as ever, shooting 7 of 11 from the floor, but thePanthers hit 11 of their 21 tries from 3&#8212including James&#8217s dramatic finale.

&#8220It felt very good as soon as I let it go,&#8221 James stated. &#8220I utilised my legs likecoach (Jacobson) told me too.&#8221

Leonard Washington and Francisco Cruz scored 16 points apiece and Wyomingthrottled UNLV&#8217s high-scoring offense, limiting the Runnin&#8217 Rebels to 49 percentshooting from the field.

UNLV had two probabilities to tie the game in the final 22 seconds but missed alayup and a long jumper as time ran out.

Luke Martinez had 15 points&#8212all on 3-pointers&#8212and Adam Waddell scored 14for Wyoming (18-five, 4-3 Mountain West). The win snapped a 4-game losing streakagainst UNLV (21-four, 5-two) and was Wyoming&#8217s 1st victory against a leading 25 teamsince beating No. 24 Utah in 2000.

&#8220We got very good individuals on this team and very good issues take place to good people, andI truly believe that, and it feels excellent to ultimately have some accomplishment,&#8221 seniorguard JayDee Luster mentioned.

Quintrell Thomas led UNLV with 15 points. Anthony Marshall and OscarBellfield contributed 12 apiece.

But UNLV, which entered the game averaging 80.6 points a game, had adifficult time operating its rapidly-break offense.

&#8220We just had to sort of &#8230 hold the fort down those initially six to eightseconds (of UNLV&#8217s possession),&#8221 Shyatt stated.

In addition, the Cowboys restricted UNLV to 3 of 14 shooting from three-pointrange.

UNLV had two probabilities following Martinez missed a long three-point try forWyoming with 22 seconds left, but the Runnin&#8217 Rebels missed both attempts&#8212onea layup attempt by Marshall, the other by Moser on a long jumper&#8212snappingtheir 5-game winning streak.

&#8220I got to the rim I had a chance at it I just didn&#8217t connect,&#8221 Marshalllamented afterward. &#8220I felt like I didn&#8217t step up. &#8230 I felt like that&#8217s onme.&#8221

Wyoming built a 42-36 halftime lead behind a balanced scoring attack thatsaw 4 players&#8212led by Martinez&#8217 12&#8212scoring in double figures. The Cowboysheld UNLV&#8217s two top scorers&#8212Mike Moser and Chace Stanback&#8212to just 2points apiece prior to the break. Each Moser and Stanback entered the gameaveraging more than 14 points a game, but neither scored until the last 3 minutes ofthe half. Moser completed the game with 11 points, and Stanback failed to scorein the second half.

&#8220I couldn&#8217t make a shot,&#8221 said a frustrated Moser, who was 4 of 12 fromthe floor. &#8220I didn&#8217t know what was going on. I still don&#8217t.&#8221

The Runnin&#8217 Rebels rallied to take a 53-52 lead on a bank shot by ReggieSmith.

After the teams traded baskets, the Cowboys went on an 8- run sparked bytwo buckets from Washington to go ahead 62-55 with 6:45 left.

Luster sank a 3-pointer&#8212his only shot from the field for the game&#8212at the5:43 mark to put Wyoming ahead 67-59.

Shyatt mentioned he had no reservations about Luster taking the long shot.

UNLV pulled to 67-64 on five unanswered points by Marshall with 1:38remaining.

Luster sank a cost-free throw just before Thomas scored with 52 seconds left to pullUNLV inside 2 points. Wyoming milked the shot clock down prior to Martinez missedhis 3-point attempt, setting up the final defensive stand by Wyoming.

UNLV coach Dave Rice did not call a time out on the Runnin&#8217 Rebels&#8217 finalpossession.

&#8220As superior as Wyoming is with their set defense I thought it was much better forus to go ahead, and we got two extremely good looks,&#8221 Rice mentioned.
