Dolphins RB Cobbs out for season

DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—The Miami Dolphins have lost an important contributor totheir wildcat package.
Reserve running back Patrick Cobbs(notes) will miss the rest of the season with atorn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, coach Tony Sparano saidTuesday. Cobbs was hurt on a carry in the fourth quarter of Monday night’svictory over the New York Jets.
“A tremendous, tremendous warrior,” Sparano said. “But that’s how thisgame goes.”
Cobbs was a mainstay in the wildcat, which uses three running backs. He hada 53-yard touchdown catch and a 44-yard run from the formation last year.
Cobbs led the Dolphins this season with 16 kickoff returns for a 22.6-yardaverage. His injury will mean more playing time for rookie Lex Hilliard(notes).
