Sindelar tied for Champions Tour lead

HOOVER, Ala. (AP)—Joey Sindelar shot a 7-under 65 in the Regions CharityClassic on Friday and was tied for first after the record-setting opening round.
Bobby Clampett, Russ Cochran and Peter Senior joined Sindelar atop a crowdedleaderboard. A total of 34 players were within three shots of the lead and 60players broke par at the Ross Bridge course.
The 77-player field combined for an average score of 69.519, breaking thetournament record of 70.397 set in 2002.
R.W. Eaks, David Frost and David Peoples were at 6 under. Ben Crenshaw, TomKite, Larry Nelson and Corey Pavin were among 11 players with 67s.
Ken Green, playing in his first stroke-play event since having the lowerpart of his right leg amputated following a car accident last June, shot a 74.
