The Daily Wrap-up, Round 3: Transitions Championship (PGATOUR.com)

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP)—Jim Furyk is one round away from ending the longest drought of his career since he was a rookie.

Furyk made consecutive birdies on the back Saturday to pull away from the pack and finished off a bogey-free round of 4-under 67 to build a three-shot lead in the Transitions Championship.

He has not won since the RBC Canadian Open in 2007, a span of 58 tournaments. It also has been nearly three years since Furyk last held the 54-hole lead on the PGA TOUR.

Furyk was at 11-under 202, but he has a strong group of contenders behind him. Defending champion Retief Goosen, and past Innisbrook winners K.J. Choi and Carl Pettersson were in the large group at 205. Also three shots behind was Bubba Watson, who has never won on the PGA TOUR.

Geoff Ogilvy is sleeping right now: believe me when I tell you. He thought he had missed the cut, went to the airport, checked in and got a text message letting him know he was tied for 72nd and was looking like he was gonna have to play in the morning. He asked if he could get off the plane, they said sure.

Then he said he’d need his bags (golf bag included). TSA said, “No sir, your bags are going to Phoenix. We can’t take any bags off the plane twenty minutes before departure.” What does Geoff do? Gets back on the plane, flies to Phoenix, gets his bags from baggage claim, goes right back upstairs and books a charter flight right back to Tampa.

He gets back a few hours before his tee time and shoots 65. You won already this year! What are you doing coming back? You made a boo-boo, stay home, say “my bad,” and come back next year.

But Geoff is a good guy and did the tournament right. I bet he won’t leave early at any other events he’s close to the cut line. I need a nap just after writing this. Play well tomorrow, Geoff!!
