BYU coach Rose has pancreatic cancer

PROVO, Utah (AP)—BYU basketball coach Dave Rose has been diagnosed withpancreatic cancer.

The university said on its Web site Wednesday that Rose’s family announcedthat tests from emergency surgery he had earlier this month to stop internalbleeding were positive for cancer. Rose had his spleen and a portion of hispancreas removed during the surgery.

Rose’s family says the coach had additional tests at the Huntsman CancerInstitute in Salt Lake City last weekend. Doctors will decide on his treatment.

Rose is recuperating at home.

The BYU coaching staff will handle the daily basketball operations,including summer basketball camps, while Rose undergoes treatment.

BYU is 97-34 in four seasons under Rose.
