LSU def. coordinator Chavis staying put

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is staying put afterdrawing interest from Georgia for the Bulldogs’ vacant coordinator position.
Chavis joined head coach Les Miles’ staff last January following 14 seasonsas defensive coordinator at Tennessee.
LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement Thursday it wasimportant for the program’s future to invest in Chavis. The statement saidChavis will receive an increase in compensation, though terms were to beannounced later.
The Tigers are 12th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 16 points agame.
No. 13 LSU faces No. 11 Penn State Friday in the Capital One Bowl.
